Introducing Nailya, the newest member of the Pictrip team of world wide photographers. Our newest Berlin vacation photographer chats to us about what inspires her and what kick started her passion to become a photographer.

What’s in your camera bag?

Canon 6d, 5d mark III+ / Lenses: Canon L24-70mm 2.8 II: Canon L35 mm 1.4 II: Tahoma 85mm 2.8 manual.

Tell us about your journey to becoming a photographer.

The magic of photography stole my heart when I was just a kid because my father used to shoot photos with his analog camera and he would develop and print them at home. Inspired by this I began walking around with half a broken manual analog camera and shooting every day. When the digital era started, making photos was my favourite way to spend my free time. After a while people started asking me to take photos for them.

Where is your favourite location to shoot at in Berlin?

In Berlin you can find absolutely everything; nature, history, modern art and architecture, post USSR charm an a lot of space. This city is one of the most multicultural and relaxed places in the world.

I like the unusual and remarkable architecture. one of my favourites is the Bauhaus archive/ museum. The place where modern design was born.

For something a bit more traditional and monumental I would go to Museum island. This is a place to visit for sure.

Tell us about your photography style and what inspires you?

I believe in photojournalism and natural light in combination with natural emotions. I want my work to be appealing to those who want to see themselves as who they really are. Vulnerable, loving, flawed human beings just as I am. Real life stories, sincerity and beautiful architecture inspires me the most.

Where is your go to place for creative inspiration?

My home away from home cities, Florence and Paris. I travel there almost every month so it goes without saying that they are places in which i’m recharging. I like to contrast in everything… ideal landscapes or perfectly clean surroundings scare me a little. No matter how many times i visit these cities there is always something new for me to discover.

If you could shoot anywhere in the world where would it be?

My dream destinations for now are New Zealand and French Polynesia. Also, last September I fell in love with Copenhagen and would love to explore the rest of Denmark with my camera.

What location is next on your travel agenda?

I am super excited about my next project on Formentera island in Spain. I’ve never been there and it looks like a little paradise next to Ibiza.

What is it that you love about your city that sets it apart from others?

You’ll never be bored in Berlin, it has surprises around every corner. So many people bring their soul and own unique culture from all over their world.

Where is your favourite place to go to unwind and relax?

I like museums and gallery and i’m also a runner so parks and lakes too. Berlin is great for me because it has so many open spaces unlike most other cities.

Name your top 3 must see places for visitors to Berlin.

  • Tempelhofer Feld
  • Bocci
  • Bunker museum

And finally, whats the one non-photography item you keep with you at all times.

My sense of humour.
