Tell us about your journey to becoming a photographer.

When I was 10 my mom took me to India for 5 weeks, I brought my Olympus and a sketchbook and I was at home there. At 22 I went back to India alone and took pictures with a photojournalism degree and some fashion assisting under my belt. When I walk around I see the world in pictures and I love learning people’s stories. Portraiture is my latest passion and it’s still taking shape.

Where is your favourite location to shoot at in Hong Kong?

Hong Kong is a mix of old and new, Western and Chinese, bustling and calm all at once. I think that the Sheung Wen neighbourhood exemplifies this, with its row of an toque shops on Hollywood road, the photogenic narrow staircases leading down to Gough street and colourful graffiti unassumingly covering alley walls.

Tell us about your photography style and what inspires you?

I am inspired by directional light. I think in its brightness and subtlety it can bring out the essence of the human face. I try to make you ignore me, look at someone you love and let me capture the way they light up your eyes.

Where is your go to place for creative inspiration?

The ocean. I grew up on the beach and it brings me back to myself while remaining aware of how vast this life is.

If you could shoot anywhere in the world where would it be?

I’ve been dreaming of a minimalist desert shoot, so I think Namibia would be perfect.

What location is next on your travel agenda?

Nepal. My love and I are planning a Himalayan trek there.

What is it that you love about Hong Kong that sets it apart from other cities?

Hong Kong is a world class city set atop a tropical island. I’ve never seen anything else like it. It is both remarkably charming and quite striking, yet it has grit. Hong Kong is imperfect in the best way.

Where is your favourite place to go to unwind and relax?

I walk up to Peak to unwind. it gets my heart beating hard and I am walking through semi-jungle for an hour, my mind quietens down by the time I board the tram to come back.

Name your top 3 must see places for visitors to Hong Kong.

Temple street market – you must try the fresh coconut juice.

Sheung wen – the most charming neighbourhood and the cafes and antique shops are simply great.

Dragon’s back – hike it and see amazing views, end your hike with Pina Coladas on Shek O Beach

And finally, whats the one non-photography item you keep with you at all times.

I take my wallet: some money, my phone, my Octopus card (Railcard) and my Burts Bees chapstick. I like to feel sort of ready to go, so that if I suddenly need to adapt to a change in plans, i’m ready to go.
